Lulu Bar’s design puts a thoughtful twist on the growing trend to develop modern versions of culturally influenced restaurants. This was achieved by placing the focus on the chef and owner’s authentic connection to the food and the regions that inspire the menu. With a desire to move away from a one-size-fits-all approach, special attention was paid to represent a modern take on the Pacific West Coast and Polynesian cuisine; Fresh, wood-fired flavours dominate the dining experience and add an element of comfort and familiarity to the laid-back atmosphere.
Lulu Bar takes a refreshing approach to restaurant design with nuances of West Coast and Polynesian influences present in materials throughout, including rich mahogany tones, plastered walls, handcrafted ceramics, concrete breezeblock tiles, and plantation shutter wall details. The space is curated with a collection of West Coast–inspired artifacts, plantings, and bespoke furniture to create a layered, eclectic space that imbues a transformative experience to each guest.
There was also a focus on connecting the street realm with the restaurant by blurring the lines between inside and outdoor environments by integrating 16-foot-high operable doors on the facade of the building; thus, creating a lively experience and connectivity to the streetscape patio.
